Asthma

What is Asthma?

Asthma is a treatable condition that affects the bronchial tubes in your lungs. Asthma is due to a tightening of the muscles that surround the small breathing tubes in your lungs and then spasm. This can be triggered by a variety of causes such as exercise, weather changes, allergies (pollens, dustmite, cats and dogs) or irritants in the air such as fumes or gases.

Testing and Treatment

Dr. Rajan will take the time to hear your story and discuss your history. She is trained to figure out what is triggering your asthma and will create a specialized treatment plan to help you live a normal, active life. There is no cure for asthma but we have many great options to improve your symptoms including medications and inhalers. For patients that have symptoms triggered by their allergies, we can even use allergy shots (allergy immunotherapy) to restore your quality of life. Dr. Rajan will also discuss ways to prevent your symptoms and stop attacks before they happen.

For our patients that continue to struggle with their asthma despite traditional medications, we offer treatment with the latest class of medications called biologic drugs which work on your immune system. Dr. Rajan can evaluate you and find out if you are eligible to receive treatment with Xolair, Fasenra, Nucala or Fasenra. These medications are given as an injection either at home or in our office and have been life-changing for many patients. Find out today if these medications could help you!
